WHAT
Ever been curious about doing live comedy? Come dip your toe in a safe, supportive atmosphere. From the actors on SNL to the writers of countless TV shows and movies--Improv comedy is the secret weapon in any artist's toolbox. The ability to create scenes on the fly doesn't just stretch your creative muscles, it also improves confidence, communication, and listening skills. This 3-hour intro class will introduce the fundamentals of improv like yes-and, world building, and trusting your scene partners. No prior acting experience is required, just a willingness to be weird!
Class is limited to 16 students between the ages of 12-16 and runs Saturday, July 6th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the North Fork Arts Center. This 3hr class is limited to 16 students.
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Originally from Mattituck, Katy Berry is an NYC-based comedian, writer, and musical improviser who's traveled the world performing at venues including The Kennedy Center, NYC's Town Hall with David Byrne, and multiple sold-out Edinburgh Fringe Fest runs. Her original writing and videos have been featured in Vulture, Studio360, Bustle, Chortle, Reductress, The Guardian, the Magnet Comedy Film Festival, NYC Web Fest, Coney Island Film Festival, Chain Film Festival and more. Her screenplay POPCORN earned her a place in the 2020 Black List and Women in Film Feature Residency and is currently being produced by Oops Donuts, with two more of her feature scripts currently in development. By day she is a senior instructor of screenwriting at the New York Film Academy as well as Director of the Brooklyn Comedy Collective's musical improv program. You can catch Katy performing regularly at the BCC and the UCB Theater in New York City.
